Licence plate thief handed conditional sentence

An Abbotsford man with a lengthy criminal history got off with a six-month conditional sentence after police found him with stolen licence plates. Kerry La Rose, 46, pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property in B.C. Supreme Court. He was also charged with possessing stolen property worth more than $5,000. RCMP traffic patrol observed a pickup speeding up and slowing down on the Trans-Canada Highway on Feb. 4, 2011. The vehicle was later found parked at a Valleyview motel. When La Rose answered the door to his room, police noticed the plates on the bed and arrested him. A video surveillance tape showed La Rose changing plates on the truck. One of those plates was stolen from the Mission area several days earlier.
