Woman files claim against attorney Wednesday 3 March 2021 A CUNUPIA woman has filed a claim in the High Court to get back $292,243.49 from a female Port of Spain attorney who handled the family’s Estate. The claim, filed by attorneys from the firm, Martin George and Co, comes up for hearing in April before Justice Joan Charles. The claim alleges the attorney consistently failed and/or refused to account for the money which was supposed to be distributed among the beneficiaries of an Estate of a man who died in 2011. The claim also seeks damages for conversion of the money the attorney received and alleges that since 2017, the woman has been trying to get the attorney to pay out the money from the Estate.

Al-Rawi: Conflict of interest involving UNC Senator Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi - ATTORNEY General Faris Al-Rawi has responded to Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial s accusation that he was in contempt of court for commenting on a case which is still before the court, instead accusing her of having a clear conflict of interest. In a release on Wednesday, the Office of the AG referred to the arguments heard earlier in the day by Justice Joan Charles who is expected to deliver her ruling next week. She has been asked to declare as unconstitutional section5(1) of the Bail Act which makes murder an offence for which bail is automatically denied. Former murder accused Akili Charles, who spent nine years on remand before he was discharged on a no-case submission, is represented by a team of attorneys led by Senior Counsel Anand Ramlogan and which includes Lutchmedial.

Ex-murder accused wants bail for murder Wednesday 10 February 2021 A NOVEL constitutional claim is engaging the attention of the High Court and the judge hearing the matter will rule later this month on whether someone accused of murder should be allowed to apply for bail. Justice Joan Charles will give her decision on February 19 on the claim of former murder accused Akilli Charles to have the section of the Bail Act which makes murder a non-bailable offence declared unconstitutional. Charles was one of a group of men who rioted at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court during the Marcia Ayers-Caesar debacle. He was given a fresh preliminary inquiry and was discharged on a no-case submission on May 21, 2019, after spending almost nine years on remand.

DECEASED: Justice Mustapha Ibrahim THE son of a late Appeal Court judge is claiming his father’s will is not valid. Khaleel Mustapha Ibrahim, son of retired Justice of Appeal Mustapha Ibrahim, filed a claim seeking to have his father’s will set aside. The claim alleges that his father’s will left two-thirds of his million-dollar estate to his daughter and one-third to the son. However, the younger Ibrahim said this was not his father’s intention. Ibrahim, of Sumadh Gardens, Vistabella, has asked the court to pronounce on the validity of the 2017 will. He also wants the grant of probate in Ibrahim’s estate revoked and permission for him to apply for a grant of letters of administration for his father’s estate.
