What Lugard put together, let no man put asunder - Shehu Sani tells separatists

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has urged secessionists to quit their agitations. The rights activist said the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorate by Lord Luguard in 1914 cannot be reversed. Recall that Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho had vowed to ensure the split of Nigeria to enable the Southwest establish the Oduduwa Republic. Another agitator and a former militant in the Niger Delta, Asari-Dokubo had announced himself as the leader of a new Biafran Customary Government, citing “injustice and marginalisation” against the Igbo’s as his reason for making the declaration. However, in a tweet on Tuesday, Shehu Sani asked, separatists, to desist from calling for a break up of Nigeria, saying their agitations can never be achieved.

Supreme Court, others shut down as JUSUN commences nationwide strike

Daily Post Nigeria Published Nigeria’s apex court, the Supreme Court has been locked up by the striking Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) as its nationwide indefinite strike commenced on Tuesday. The strike action declared to back up the union’s demand for full autonomy for the judiciary recorded a total compliance in all the courts in Abuja. Among the courts put under lock and key are the Court of Appeal headquarters complex, and its Abuja division, federal high court headquarters, Federal Capital Territory high court complex and the National Industrial Court of Nigeria headquarters. DAILY POST observed that as early as 6am, the Jusun Strike Enforcement Committee had stormed the courts and put their gates under lock and key with big chains.

The valedictory court session held in honour of Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour last Monday was not all about encomiums and merriment, but an opportunity for him to provide tips that could enhance not only Nigeria’s jurisprudence, but help in justice delivery, writes Davidson Iriekpen After serving a total of 27 years as a judge of the three levels of court, 11 of which was at the Supreme Court, Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, last Monday, bowed out after a colourful valedictory court session held in his honour at the apex court. The ceremony, which had all the justices of the Supreme Court in attendance, including the Chief Justice of the Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, also had judges of other courts, senior and junior lawyers and some public officials such as the Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola and his Edo State counterpart, Godwin Obaseki.
