“We’re building on an era of affordability that Southwest initiated for Hawaii air travel,” Andrew Watterson, chief commercial officer & executive vice president for Southwest said in a press release.
“These new flights bring Hawaii service closer to more of our customers who live near airports across the West, and make it possible to choose Southwest to fly between the Aloha State and cities as far east as Nashville, without spending an entire overnight in the air.”
Southwest’s announcement included new flights from other western cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland, Las Vegas and Phoenix, all of which can fly non-stop to the Hawaiian Islands.

Phase one of the City s solar energy PPA includes installation on the rooftops of public parking facilities City Place A (50 W. 6th St.), City Place B (50 E. 5th St.) and City Place C (50 E. 3rd St.) in the Downtown area. The solar energy system totals 415.2-kilowatts, capable of generating electricity equivalent to power 60 homes. The project will reduce the City s carbon footprint by an estimated 530 tons while the City s utility partner, Southern California Edison, transitions to green technology to meet its goal of 80 percent renewable energy by 2030. The solar arrays will also provide covered parking for approximately 130 parking spaces, improving the experience for public parking customers.

Four U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18 combat jets will arrive at Long Beach Airport today, officials announced this morning. After planned operations, the aircraft are expected to depart Monday morning.
All times are tentative and subject to change without notice, according to the announcement. Similar operations in March and earlier this month were canceled.
The city noted the jets are “noticeably louder” than other craft that utilize the airport but are exempt from the municipal airport’s noise regulations. The aircraft are expected to modify arrival and departure flight profiles and minimize use of afterburners to abate noise as much as possible.
