Ottawa sets new one-day record with 210 cases of COVID-19; Ontario reports record 4,200 cases

  OTTAWA Ottawa has set a new one-day record for COVID-19 cases with 210 new cases on Friday, as Ottawa Public Health data addresses a discrepancy in data compared with Ontario health reporting. Ottawa Public Health reported 210 cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Friday, along with one new death linked to the virus. Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, there have been 10,960 cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 395 deaths. Across Ontario, a record 4,294 cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday. The Ministry of Health says there was a data upload delay at Toronto Public Health and therefore approximately 450 additional cases were included in Friday s report.

Ontario sets new record for COVID-19 cases; 68 cases in Ottawa

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is blaming a large number of case reports late Wednesday for a major discrepancy in reported new COVID-19 cases in Ottawa. Meantime, Ontario set two new COVID-19 records on Thursday for total number of cases and deaths linked to the virus on a single day. Health officials confirmed a one-day record 3,519 cases of COVID-19 across Ontario on Thursday, up from 3,266 infections reported on Wednesday. Eighty-nine more deaths related to COVID-19 were reported, a one-day high. There are 891 new cases in Toronto, 569 in Peel Region, 457 in York Region and 174 in Durham Region. Windsor-Essex County reported 208 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

COVID-19 rates in Ottawa climb on Saturday

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting another jump in new COVID-19 cases and an increase in the per capita rate of infection. OPH said Saturday 133 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19, up from 122 new cases on Friday. That increase boosted the per capita rate in the last seven days to more than 55 cases per 100,000 population. The estimated reproduction number the number of additional people each person with COVID-19 infects also increased on Saturday. Across Ontario, the province reported a record-breaking 3,363 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, as well as 2,476 on Friday. The province also reported 95 new deaths linked to COVID-19 in the past 48 hours, with 51 new deaths reported on Friday and 44 new deaths reported on Saturday. 

Ottawa surpasses 10,000 cases of COVID-19, test positivity rate jumps to 3 9 per cent

  OTTAWA Ottawa s key COVID-19 indicators continue to rise, as the capital surpasses 10,000 total cases of novel coronavirus during the pandemic. Ottawa Public Health reported 122 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with no new deaths linked to the virus. Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, there have been 10,051 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 392 deaths. The daily epidemiology report shows a 1.4 per cent increase in Ottawa s positivity rate, while the cases per 100,000 has jumped to 43.4 cases per 100,000 on Friday, from 29.2 cases per 100,000 on Christmas Eve. Ottawa Public Health says Ottawa s positivity rate increased to 3.9 per cent for the period of Dec. 25-31, up from 2.5 per cent for the period Dec. 23-29.  The positivity rate for COVID-19 tests in Ottawa was 1.2 per cent for the week of Dec. 14 to 20.

Ottawa breaks record for most COVID-19 cases with 194 on New Year s Eve: Public Health Ontario

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health says a large number of case reports received late Wednesday was reflected in Ontario s COVID-19 case count and not the local tally, resulting in a major discrepancy in the reports on New Year s Eve. Public Health Ontario reported both Ottawa and Ontario set new one-day records for new COVID-19 cases on the last day of 2020. The provincial agency said Thursday morning that there were 194 new cases of COVID-19 in the capital. The previous record for COVID-19 in Ottawa was 183 cases, set back on Oct. 8. Across Ontario, 3,328 new cases of COVID-19 were reported – a one-day record for Ontario. There are 888 new cases in Toronto, 431 in Peel, 418 in York Region and 257 in Windsor-Essex.
