A Tsunami of Brood X Cicadas Is About to Hit the U.S. How to Check When They Will Come Out

A tsunami of cicadas will emerge from a 17-year slumber in more than a dozen states across the U.S. in the coming months, with billions of the insects surfacing from the earth to conduct a boisterous mating ritual.
The swarms, collectively Brood X, are periodical cicadas that have spent almost two decades preparing for the flight, which will see them mate and lay eggs before dying enjoying a short burst of life before the hibernation process starts anew.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. With the goal of providing a network of support for current black pest control owner/operators and promoting black ownership of pest control firms, Black Ownership Matters (BOM) has been launched.
The organization was formed organically in summer 2020 when a group of like-minded individuals and organizations from across the country came together with the goal of supporting black economic advancement in the field of pest management.
As Black Ownership Matters President Jason Payne explained, “Significant inequality in this industry, and all industries, has created a racial wealth gap that we all are struggling to close. In order to help close this gap, our goal is to promote black ownership of pest control companies and advancement in the industry by providing financial guidance, business resources, employee development, mentorship and community support.”

DAVIS, Calif., March 5, 2021.Dr. Anita Oberholster, Associate Specialist in Cooperative Extension in Enology for Agricultural Natural Resources (ANR), based at University of California, Davis, has been confirmed by the American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV) as the recipient of the 2021 ASEV Extension Distinction Award. Dr. Oberholster will present “The Challenges of Modern Extension Programs” at the 72nd ASEV National Conference, held virtually on June 21-24, 2021.
Dr. Oberholster completed her doctorate in wine sciences at the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2008 and worked at the Department of Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University until 2011, when she became a Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis. In her current position, she focuses on continued education for the grape and wine industry while her research program concentrates on current issues in the grape and wine
