NMU board appoints committee members | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 28, 2020 MARQUETTE The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees approved 2021 committee assignments and charges at a special meeting on Wednesday. The board also supported a resolution authorizing a loan of up to $10 million to the NMU Foundation, on an as-needed basis, so that it is better positioned to support capital projects that benefit NMU and are consistent with previously approved master plans. NMU Board of Trustees Chair-elect Tami Seavoy will serve as chair of the Executive Committee. She will be joined by Vice Chair-elect Steve Young, Alexis Hart, Robert Mahaney and NMU President Fritz Erickson. The Academic Affairs Committee will be composed of Hart as chair, Lisa Fittante and a third member pending the governor’s appointment of new trustees to fill two vacancies created by terms that expire Dec. 31.

(Photo courtesy Edmonds College) Central Washington University has named renowned artist and long-time Edmonds College supporter d’Elaine Johnson as the recipient of its College of Arts and Humanities 2020 Distinguished Alumni award. The Distinguished Alumni award recognizes Johnson, a 1954 CWU graduate, for her body of work as a distinguished artist and 24 years as a Seattle Public Schools art teacher. Edmonds College has partnered with Central Washington University since 1975, and CWU-Lynnwood has been co-located on the EC campus for the past 45 years to provide greater access to continued education for bachelor’s degree seeking students.

PED Presents Near-Flat $3.3B Budget Request For Schools PED News: SANTA FE The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is requesting a near-flat $3.3 billion budget for public schools in the next fiscal year while rolling out plans to increase the share going to schools with the greatest need. “Equity is at the heart of this budget request,” Public Education Secretary Ryan Stewart said. “We’re getting additional money to the kids who need it most while giving districts the flexibility to determine at a local level what their students need.” Stewart presented the Public School Support budget request to the Legislative Finance Committee Wednesday.
