SunStar Bacolod social media content editor and reporter Erwin Nicavera bags the Best Agriculture News Story (Regional) of the Year during the 14th Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards on Wednesday.
(SunStar Bacolod) July 30, 2021 SunStar Bacolod journalist Erwin Nicavera bagged the Best Agriculture News Story (Regional) of the Year award in this year’s The Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards.
Nicavera, who is the social media content editor and reporter of SunStar Bacolod, is the first Negros Occidental-based journalist to win the prestigious award.
His winning story titled “Urban farming gaining ground amid pandemic,” discussed how backyard farming can help one become self-sufficient especially during this global health crisis.

+ March 16, 2021 THE General Alliance of Workers Associations (Gawa) is backing the move of the United Kooll Company Inc. (KCI) Labor Union-Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union (Paciwu) Chapter to file a notice of strike against the alcohol manufacturing firm based in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Wennie Sancho, secretary general of Gawa, said the Negros Occidental-based labor group recently convened its council of leaders under the Provincial Trade Union Bureau (PTUB).
There, Sancho said, they strongly manifested their unequivocal support to the union s move to file a notice of strike before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) in Bacolod City on Monday, March 15.

+ December 10, 2020 AS IT marks this year s Human Rigth s Day on Wednesday, Negros Occidental-based labor group General Alliance of Workers Associations (Gawa) asserted that in a democratic state, the individual enjoys certain rights that cannot be modified or taken away by the lawmaking body.
These rights are guaranted because of the belief in the inherent dignity and worth of every human person, its secretary general Wennie Sancho said.
Sancho said the value accorded to human dignity is measured by the extent of respect for human rights. Unfortunately, gross and blatant violations of human rights goes unabated today all over the world, by the most cruel and powerful oppressors who are dead to the claims of human affection and knew no rules but to extend their power at the expense of human rights violations, he added.
