Cutting-edge research into recycling could be conducted up on the hills above Swindon in just a few months. A plan put forward by a consortium of the Universities of Bath and Oxford and Swindon company Recycling Technologies has been given permission to use two of the hangars currently owned as storage space by the Science Museum for world-leading development. The company and the universities will be working on finding new ways to be able to properly recycle all sorts of plastics and could put Swindon at the heart of moving to a truly circular economy. The application for the change of use for hangars L3 and L4 on the airfield says: “The purpose is to provide inspiring facilities in which low carbon, sustainable circular economy solutions can be developed for plastic and other materials.”
