ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) requested the Supreme Court on Thursday to allow re-polling in at least 109 controversial polling stations of NA-75 Daska if not the entire constituency.
The request came during the hearing of a petition filed by Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Ali Asjad Malhi seeking reversal of Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) February 25 decision to hold fresh election in the Sialkot’s constituency.
The electoral body had ordered re-polling in the entire constituency after violence marred the by-election, leaving two people dead and several injured in firing incidents. The PML-N and the PTI had blamed each other for the clashes.

Islamabad: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman on Tuesday handed over new mobiles to seven police stations (PSs) for efficiently curbing crime in the city.
A special ceremony was held here at Central Police Office, which was attended by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations, Superintendent of Police city zone and station house officers (SHOs) of all the relevant PSs. On the occasion, the IGP inspected the new vehicles and handed over its keys to the SHOs of the relevant PSs.
Addressing the ceremony, he said the initiative would not only bring significant improvement in the police performance, but also help provide in time services to the citizens by augmenting response time of the force. Solid reforms a must to ensure public respect at police stations

PESHAWAR: The death of the grade-7 student in the lock up in the provincial capital has highlighted the need for real and solid reforms at the police station level to ensure basic human rights and respect of every citizen.
An upward trend has been witnessed in complaints of violation of basic human rights of the citizens in custody, during raids and at some checkpoints of police and other law-enforcement agencies across the country.
Many have also complained of being insulted by the cops and personnel of other forces during their interaction with the public in recent years.
