TAMPA, Fla. â Hillsborough County School leaders are working under a tight deadline to finalize a financial recovery plan in a matter of days that will address the districtâs ongoing financial crisis and help them avoid the Florida Department of Education from stepping in.

The new outlook for the budget was presented by a team of financial experts at Hillsborough County Schools. Some board members asked for more details on how the accounting had changed, and board member Karen Perez requested a forensic audit.
A plan to rescue Hillsborough County Schools from what officials have described as a more than $100 million budget deficit was delivered to the school board Thursday, showing that the situation is apparently no longer as dire as previously projected and might be remedied with $10 million to $25 million in federal aid dollars.

TAMPA The Hillsborough School Board might end up asking the community for money to keep it out of state receivership.
School Superintendent Addison Davis suggested the board might reach out to supporters in the business community for $10 million dollars to fill a hole as the board rushes to finalize a financial plan to send to state Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran.
The board is moving around several pieces of the puzzle as it tries to cover a $107 million shortfall and bring its reserve back to at least two percent, as required by state law. The availability of emergency federal funds meant for schools . so-called ESSER, ESSER 2 and ESSER 3 money. will affect how much the board has to come up with.
