OXFORD, Miss (WTVA) - The first group of veterans got the coronavirus vaccine at the State Veterans Home in Oxford Wednesday,
U.S. Army veteran, Vernard Murchison, said getting the vaccine today means he is one shot closer to being reunited with his family.
“It’ll be nice to see them. It sure would,” he said.
Murchinson was one first resident to get the Pfizer vaccine at the State Veterans home in Oxford. He and other residents haven’t seen their families in months because of three coronavirus outbreaks in the facility.

INDIANAPOLIS The weekend shopping event on Monument Circle has been canceled due to Saturday s forecast.
Event organizers canceled Holiday Market on the Circle due to a forecast of windy and rainy conditions.
Shoppers can still purchase unique, local gifts to complete their holiday shopping online though.
The event, which was supposed to take place Saturday Dec. 19 from 3-7 p.m. on the south half of Monument Circle, is now being promoted as a virtual event to shop for local gifts online.
Workers at the State Veterans Home in Fayetteville are hoping local residents will help brighten the holiday spirits of veterans there.
Pruitt Health, which runs the home, is asking the community to send holiday greetings, prayers, drawings and videos. The good wishes can be sent through the organization’s website at pruitthealth.com/caring-cards or by email to CaringCards@pruitthealth.com.
Last year, residents in Fayetteville and the surrounding area sent dozens of cards to residents at the State Veterans Home, according to a Pruitt spokeswoman. The cards were filled with warm wishes and messages of encouragement, she said.
PruittHealth activities directors and caregivers will share the holiday greetings and messages with the veterans so they’ll know that they are in the thoughts of compassionate friends, including those they have never met, according to a statement released by the company. The cards also will help combat loneliness and social isolation, which the Centers for
