Bank of Uganda (BoU) Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile was yesterday quietly led before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting ahead of starting another five-year term in office following reappointment by President Museveni last month.

Last month President Museveni suspended DGF operations in Uganda, sparking uncertainty and panic over the future of about 74 donor funded civil society organisations in the country.

The team, which will be headed by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, was given two weeks to accomplish the task.

Prosecution states that Mr Ssemanda, Mr Arinaitwe, Mr Mondo and others still at large between 2017 and March 2019 in Bombo in Luweero and Kampala fraudulently obtained millions of shillings from various people by false pretence.
Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu issued the arrest warrant after Pastor Mondo failed to show up in court to answer the charges. His lawyer, Mr Robert Lutaro, did not appear either.

Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the arrest of Pastor Franklin Mugisha Mondo of Empowerment Christian Centre Church International on allegations of fleecing worshipers of more than Shs4.5b in bogus scholarship programmes.
This week, President Museveni suspended the operations of Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), which is a principal funder of about 74 civil society organizations across the country citing subversion and its structure which is exclusively foreign headed.
The President also ordered the Inspector General of Government (IGG), police and State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate how the Ministry of Finance authorised the multi billion dollar fund group to operate in Uganda without involving him or cabinet well knowing the consequences it creates.
The Action Aid country Director Xavier Ejoyi says they were informed by DGF to continue implementing their funded projects.
Ejoyi meanwhile says government needs to appreciate the work of this funding group and civil society groups.
