The 8 a.m.-12 noon work hours likely to continue with extension of lockdown
Banks in Telangana, that for a week now have been keeping open branches for customers from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, are likely to stick to the same timings beyond May 20.
It looks imminent in the backdrop of the State government extending the lockdown till May 30. The State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) is expected to meet, virtually, in all likelihood on Thursday to discuss the further course since it had approved the new, four-hour schedule for the branches only up to May 20.

Special SLBC meeting in view of lockdown tweaks timings to 8 a.m. to 12 noon
Beginning Thursday, bank branches across Telangana will remain open for four hours, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
This was decided unanimously by member banks at a special meeting of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) that was convened on Wednesday in the light of a 10-day lockdown that came into force in Telangana.
The new timings will be in force till May 20 and if required would be reviewed for further extension, a communication from SLBC after the meeting to Controller of all banks in the State said.

Doubts remain whether customers will be able to visit branches
Banks will function as usual during the 10-day lockdown beginning May 12 in Telangana though questions remain on the customer footfall their branches are likely to receive.
“Banks, ATMs, insurance services and related activities” figure in the list of permitted activities according to the Government Order on the lockdown issued on Tuesday evening.
Though they have been asked to operate as usual, it is unlikely customers will find it easy to access branch banking services since the lockdown will be in force from 10 a.m. Most branches open at 10 a.m. while some start functioning from 9 a.m., sources in banks said, pointing to how keeping the facilities open when restrictions on movement of people are in place may not serve any purpose.
