FREEPORT A Stockton man was sentenced to 180 days in the Stephenson County Jail on Wednesday for his role in the March 28, 2019, death of Illinois State Trooper Brooke Jones-Story.
Jones-Story, 34, was struck and killed by a semitrailer while conducting an inspection on another semitrailer that she had pulled over on U.S. Highway 20 near Freeport.
Craig Dittmar, 57, the driver of the vehicle that struck Jones-Story, pleaded guilty Nov. 30 to reckless homicide, operating a commercial motor vehicle while fatigued causing death, and a violation of Scott’s Law. Police previously said he admitted to falling asleep multiple times before the crash.

Unit 2- Mary Jenkins, 45-year-old female from Charleston, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
PRELIMINARY:
A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 2 was northbound in the right lane of Interstate 57 at milepost 208.5 in Douglas County. Unit 1 was traveling a short distance behind Unit 2. Unit 2 slowed due to a rapidly deflating tire and attempted to maneuver to the shoulder of the roadway. Unit 1 struck Unit 2 in the rear. Unit 1 came to rest in the median and caught fire. Unit 2 ran off the right side of the road and came to rest in the ditch.
