LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) A stretch of Interstate 10 in Luna County in southwestern New Mexico is now a memorial corridor honoring a New Mexico State Officer gunned down by a drug trafficking suspect on Feb. 4.
The State Transportation Commission voted unanimously Thursday to approve the 18-mile (29-kilometer) memorial for Officer Darian Jarrott, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
“That strip on I-10 will always have significance and a special meaning,” state Lt. Gov. Howie Morales told the commission.
Jarrott was killed near Deming while conducting a traffic stop of a pickup driven by Omar Felix Cueva, a drug trafficking suspect under investigation by federal Homeland Security Investigations.

Members of the State Traffic Commission voted unanimously last Wednesday, May 5, against installing a traffic light at the intersection. The request was initially put before the commission for consideration by state Rep. Robert Phillips last year.

LANSING, Mich. Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited the M-59 Hall Rd. Rebuilding Michigan project in Clinton Township for a National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week event to encourage drivers to exercise caution in work zones as workers begin the construction season to repair our state s roads and bridges. She was joined by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.
We must all do our part to keep the roads safe for our workers during this construction season, said
Governor Whitmer. Stay alert in construction zones, follow all posted signs, and slow down to protect our construction workers and save a life. Orange construction barrels are a positive sign that we re fixing the roads, but they are also a reminder to exercise caution.

It’s not clear yet if Pennsylvania drivers will pay $1 or $2 to cross major bridges, but Pennsylvania needs billions of dollars from somewhere for transportation, state Rep. Mike Carroll said.
“So whether those nine bridges get tolled is an open question, but for those who say, ‘No,’ my question is, ‘What instead?’ ” Carroll said to other members of the state Transportation Revenue Options Commission during a teleconference April 29.
A day earlier, the Senate passed a bill requiring Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration to restart the process that devised the plan for tolls on bridges, including spans on I-80 at Nescopeck Creek in Black Creek Township and at the Lehigh River in White Haven.
