The State Level Monitoring Committee (SLMC) on Solid Waste Management will submit its report on shortcomings in management of biomedical and other waste at the Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam, before the Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) soon.
The State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has submitted a report before SLMC Chairman A.V. Ramakrishna Pillai after inspecting the hospital premises in the wake of the open burning of non-biodegradable and biomedical waste on Thursday. The committee is likely to finalise its report by the end of next week.

The State government has assured the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that it will prepare a comprehensive action plan for the restoration of the Periyar river by February, 2021.
The southern bench of the tribunal, comprising Justice K. Ramakrishnan and expert member Saibal Dasgupta, had asked the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary, Environment, in November to come up with a proper action plan against pollution of the river. The State Level Monitoring Committee on Solid Waste Management appointed by the tribunal had submitted a detailed report identifying the causes of pollution and the need to act swiftly against violators.
KMML and FACT shares energy awards

The Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd (KMML), Kollam, and FACT Udyogamandal, shared the Kerala State Energy Conservation Awards 2020 in the ‘Large-scale energy consumer category’.
The award, determined by the State-Level Monitoring Committee for Energy Conservation in Kerala, carries a cash prize of ₹50,000 each.
In the medium-scale energy consumers category, Milma’s Malabar Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (MRCMPU), won the award and cash prize of ₹1 lakh.
In the small-scale energy consumers category, Keya Foods International Pvt Ltd, Alappuzha, won the award, which carries a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. In the ‘buildings category’, Christ College, Irinjalakuda, won the award and cash prize of ₹1 lakh. The ₹1 lakh award was won by the Kanakkary grama panchayat, Kottayam, in the ‘institutions and organisations’ category.
