Friday COVID-19 Roundup: LA County, State Set to Ease COVID Restrictions Starting June 15; 148th Death at Henry Mayo

On Friday, Los Angeles County Public Health officials confirmed 15 new deaths, including one additional death at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and 264 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 27,873 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley.
To date, Public Health identified 1,238,367 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 24,154 deaths.
There are 355 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 23% of these people are in the ICU. Testing results are available for nearly 6,682,000 individuals with 17% of people testing positive.
The lower number of cases and deaths may reflect reporting delays over the weekend.
Of the four new deaths reported today, one person that passed away was over the age of 80, two people who died were between the ages of 65 and 79, and one person who died was between the ages of 18 and 29.
Today, the County reached the grim milestone of 24,003 deaths serving as a reminder of the devastation experienced over the past 15 months.
“We extend our love and prayers to everyone who has lost loved ones during this tragedy, and are hopeful that even as we collectively mourn our great losses, deaths will continue to remain low in the weeks ahead,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health.
On Friday, Los Angeles County Public Health officials confirmed 16 new deaths and 421 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 27,766 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Of the 16 new deaths reported today, six people that passed away were over the age of 80, six people who died were between the ages of 65 and 79, and four people who died were between the ages of 50 and 64.
“To the friends and families who are grieving the loss of a loved one, we send our deepest condolences and wish you healing,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health.
To date, Public Health identified 1,235,118 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 23,980 deaths.
The number of cases and deaths are likely to reflect reporting delays over the weekend.

There are 390 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 23% of these people are in the ICU. This is the first time hospitalizations dropped below 400 since the beginning of the pandemic.
