Residents of Oyo State are at the polls to elect local government chairmen and councilors today.
DAILY POST gathered that the State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) is conducting the election in all 33 local government areas in the state.
Our correspondent gathered that seventeen political parties are partaking in the election.
DAILY POST recalls that the last local government election was conducted in 2018 during the tenure of the immediate past Governor, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
OYSIEC Chairman, Isiaka Abiola Olagunju while speaking on the conduct of the election, said no electorate will be harassed, intimidated or embarrassed by any security operatives while performing their legitimate rights.

Mr Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), the OYSIEC Chairman, made this known on Friday, in Ibadan. “We have already completed the distribution of non-sensitive materials since yesterday. So, we dedicate today for the distribution of sensitive materials to local government councils. “For now, they are going primarily to the offices in the 33 local governments. By Saturday morning or midnight, we will start distribution to wards and polling units. So, we will cover everything before 6am tomorrow,” he said.

Plateau state government says it will conduct Local Government election in October 2021.
Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Fabian Ntung disclosed this in Jos on Tuesday during a meeting he had with chairmen of registered political parties in the state.
Ntung, who did not mention the exact date for the council poll, said the timetable for the poll will be released to members of the public on Tuesday (today).
“We wish to inform political stakeholders and indeed the public that timetable and guidelines for the conduct of local government elections would be released Tuesday.
