Lot Next Door on the way to become established program

The start of the new fiscal year for the city of Hopkinsville has given the Lot Next Door program more funding to get the initiative established. Hopkinsville City Council approved the program to be an official committee during a city council meeting in May. The approval authorized the mayor and Chief Administrative Officer, Troy Body, to initiate legal action and release liens as needed for the facilitation of the program. The Lot Next Door program was awarded upwards of $250,000 in the new budget, for new software that will connect code enforcement and other departments to streamline the process, Body said.

The Birmingham Times  Less than 24 hours after the Birmingham City Council approved his $455 million FY 2022 operating budget, Mayor Randall Woodfin on Wednesday went into detail about two areas that have raised the most concern by some over the spending plan – the police department and Birmingham City Schools.  The council on Tuesday approved the spending plan 8-0 which contains money for neighborhood revitalization including $10 million for street paving, an additional $1 million sidewalk budget and funds to maintain demolition and weed abatement. Councilor Stephen Hoyt was present but did not vote. The fiscal year starts July 1 and will run through June 30, 2022. However, the mayor held a press conference on Wednesday to focus on areas of potential concern.

Nicole Curtis still cries foul after winning fight with land bank over Detroit house View Comments Tall grass swayed in the breeze in front of the house at 451 E. Grand Blvd. Saturday, during a press conference called by HGTV star Nicole Curtis, who won the rundown home in a court battle earlier this month.  Curtis, host of Rehab Addict,  and her attorney, Jim Rasor of Royal Oak, said they wanted to call attention to what they called abuses by the Detroit Land Bank Authority, which claimed ownership of the house after Curtis had purchased it in 2017. Curtis also invited the public to attend an open house at the home starting at noon on Sunday, and mounted an American flag on the front porch in recognition of the Memorial Day weekend.
