LTFRB hopes to pay PUV drivers under service contracting during ECQ period

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 5) The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it is hoping to release the payouts for drivers of public utility vehicles that provided free rides under the government s Service Contracting Program during the two-week enhanced community quarantine period. We are expediting the process of getting these funds released hopefully during the ECQ period, so that we will be able to pay the drivers who have been waiting for the payment on the Libreng Sakay (free ride program), LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra told CNN Philippines on Wednesday.

The city government of Antipolo City has warned drivers of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) such as jeepneys, buses, and UV Express vehicles, against operating at full capacity even as the city and the entire Province of Rizal are still under more relaxed quarantine restrictions.

The office of Mayor Andrea Bautista Ynares, in a post on Facebook, said joint operations of the city’s Office of Public Safety and Security, Philippine National Police, and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board from June 24-28 and July 6-13 resulted in the apprehension of 78 PUVs that were found to be full of passengers, a violation of the existing health protocols.
