Electric vehicle summit wants to fast-track switch to electric

By Iñigo S. Roces With more countries pledging to only sell electric vehicles within the coming decades, many may be asking, when will the Philippines do the same? These and more obstacles to switching to electric will be discussed in the coming Electric Vehicle Summit. The event is organized by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), together with the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) and in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE). These entities are behind the Ninth Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) on August 26-27, 2021 via the online platform, Zoom. The PEVS is the biggest annual conference promoting electric vehicles in the country, and will stage its second virtual summit next month.

ARTA urges LTO to remove TPL

ARTA Secretary Jeremiah Belgica said that TPL is already covered by a Comprehensive Automotive Insurance Policy. Anti Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Director General Jeremiah Belgica “I implore them to look into it and reconsider waiving the requirement provided that the vehicle owner can show proof of comprehensive insurance,” he said. Belgica explained that eliminating overregulation and unnecessary requirements would reduce the burden on the transacting public, streamline the vehicle registration process, and promote good regulatory principles. “This is all in line with our intensified campaign against fixers through entrapment operations,” said Belgica on LTO, which is known for a haven of fixers.

Vehicle Inspection Mandatory for Registration & Renewal

car-inspection-1-1493 This is in line with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) thrust, said Undersecretary for Administrative Service and Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center Steering Committee Chairman Artemio U. Tuazon Jr. “An unsafe vehicle on the road can kill,” he pointed out. “It can be as deadly as a vehicle driven by a drunk driver. A poorly maintained vehicle can experience mechanical failures and crash.” Metro Manila registered 121,771 road crashes in one year, averaging 334 crashes per day, according to latest figures. Of this total, 372 ended in death while 20,466 victims suffered from non-fatal injuries and 100,933 caused property damages. “We can prevent unnecessary loss of lives and property on our roads by making sure vehicles are safe and roadworthy,” Tuazon reiterated.
