Police can confirm missing man Brian Bench has sadly passed away.
Brian was located in a bush area of Parahaki, Whangarei this afternoon.
Despite efforts from emergency service staff, he sadly passed away at the scene.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tragic time.
We’d like to thank all the members of the public for their overwhelming support, those who assisted with the search on Saturday and those who provided information to Police.
We’d also like to thank the Land Search and Rescue staff for their tireless work over the past few days while searching for Brian.

Technology is often used to aid in the search for people with dementia who go missing, and now South Canterbury has funding to resource two volunteers to administer the radio frequency tracking devices. Community Trust Mid and South Canterbury has granted $5080 to the WanderSearch Canterbury Charitable Trust to allow for the extension of its services into Mid and South Canterbury. WanderSearch supports people with cognitive impairment and offers a loan system of the devices which can be worn around the neck or wrist.
