Breaking News | Breaking News EFCC, SCUML seeks improved collaboration with SROs in tackling money laundering

Views: Visits 29 The Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, SCUML, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has sought improved collaboration between the Commission and Self-Regulatory Organisations, SROs, in the fight against money-laundering and terrorism financing in Nigeria. Speaking during a three-day courtesy visit to professional bodies, Non-governmental organisations, NGOs and stakeholders in Lagos, the Director of SCUML, Daniel Isei, said that the visit was key in creating awareness in the fight against money laundering and counter- terrorism in Nigeria. According to,Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Efcc, Daniel  Isei, who said NGOs were vulnerable for abuse and misuse, added that the cooperation of the self-regulatory bodies would ensure the success of the preventive measures to check the scourge of terrorism financing in Nigeria.

Babalola, Hassan-Odukale Visit FBN Group

On hand to receive them were the Group Managing Director, FBNHoldings, Mr. U.K. Eke; the Managing Director of FirstBank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, and the Deputy Managing Director of FirstBank, Mr. Gbenga Shobo. “The chairmen held a meeting with the executive team of the Group further to their recent appointments by the Central Bank of Nigeria. “The meeting availed the leadership of the Group the opportunity to update the chairpersons of the Boards on the strategic direction of FBN Holdings and its subsidiaries,” the statement added. Babalola is a graduate of Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and the Institute of Directors of Nigeria. Institute urges prompt remittance of taxes to stimulate economic growth

By Edeki Igafe Warri (Delta), May 4, 2021 Mr Abel Omolu, Chairman, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Warri District Society, has appealed to eligible tax payers to make timely payments. Omolu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Warri, that prompt payment of taxes would stimulate rapid growth of the country’s economy. He also urged the government to do the needful by providing basic amenities to tax payers, so they could enjoy the benefits accrued to those funds. The CITN chairman, who described tax evasion as a criminal offence, however, noted that a lot of people were unaware of it.

Views: Visits 15 Nestoil .Tasks tiers of govt on accountability By Olasunkanmi Akoni The Charted Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, CITN, has blamed the low tax culture among taxable adults and businesses in Nigeria on lack of accountability and transparency in the expenditure of tax money by tiers of government. Chairman of CITN, Ikeja and District Society, Mr Funso Abidakun, made the remark at the 2021annual Tax Lecture, held at the weekend, in Ikeja, Lagos. The event, with the theme: “The effects and implications of the new Finance Act 2020 on the Nigerian economy,” was an event being organized annually, in line with the directive of the national headquarters, Abuja, to further enlighten the tax-paying public on their obligations.
