Norman City Council Begins Assessing Damage From Historic Hail Storm

By: Jordan Dafnis NORMAN, Oklahoma - The City of Norman was hit by a historic hailstorm last week. During Wednesday s city council meeting, councilmembers are beginning to discuss ways to assess damage to city property. “Most of our fleet lives outside uncovered,” Norman city manager Darrel Pyle said. “We had 28 patrol vehicles with broken windows. Lots of little dents lots of pick-up trucks. Some of the heavier equipment is a little less noticeable on the garbage truck versus on of the regular vehicles.” Pyle said the city planned to replace the glass as quickly as possible but some of the windows have been back ordered through August.

Ahead of future park improvement projects, residents will see construction begin on the proposed Senior Wellness Center and the Indoor Aquatics and Multi-Sport Center. Financial Services Director Anthony Francisco said Tuesday night that the two projects are “nearing the starting line of dirt flying and construction starting.” The senior center will be located at the southeast corner of N. Findlay Avenue and E. Rich Street, and is part of the voter-approved Norman Forward Sales Tax.

Elkins sewer project has rocky start | News, Sports, Jobs

Executive Editor ELKINS The newest phase of the city of Elkins’ sewer separation project has gotten off to “a little bit of a rocky start,” a city official said. In last week’s Elkins City Council meeting, Operations Manager Bob Pingley gave an update on the project, which got underway Feb. 1. “Phase II of the sewer separation project … got off to a little bit of a rocky start,” Pingley said. “It’s a very deep trench, with very poor soil in South Elkins. “We had some problems with close proximity to water lines. But I think we’ve worked through these problems, and now that the weather’s improving that’s going to help us too,” he said.
