Reps relieve 12 committees of duties over non-performance Published 6 May 2021 THE House of Representatives on Wednesday withdrew from 12 ad hoc committees the various tasks given to them over their failure to conclude assignments given to them and submit reports before the chamber. The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, said after dealing with the non-performing ad hoc committees, the standing committees would be the next. The substantive committees are now to submit their reports on or before May 25. Gbajabiamila had on April 21, 2021, asked all ad hoc committees to lay their reports by the end of the month, saying, “Please, as a reminder, all ad hoc committees are to submit their reports 30th April – end of this month.”

The adhoc committee had, at its last public sitting given the Chief of Army Staff time to go back and prepare a comprehensive position for presentation to it, while also asking the Inspector General of Police to do same and report back to the Committee.

Femi Gbajabiamila, in compliance with standing order of the House, has discharged several ad hoc committees set up to carry out various tasks, for failing to present their reports which was due at the end of April. Gbajabiamila had on April 21, 2021, asked all ad-hoc committees to present their reports by the April 30. The Speaker’s directive was sequel to adoption of a motion for the discharge, moved by the Chairman of Rules and Business, Hon, Abubakar Hassan Fulata. Moving the motion, Fulata said the House was aware of the directive of the Speaker on April 26, 2021, that all ad–hoc committees should present their reports on or before April 30, 2021.
