US Lawmakers Condemn 'Reprehensible' Attack on Hong Kong Epoch Times' Printing Press

US Lawmakers Condemn ‘Reprehensible’ Attack on Hong Kong Epoch Times’ Printing Press U.S. lawmakers on April 12 condemned the latest attack on The Epoch Times’ printing press in Hong Kong, saying it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was behind the incident in an attempt to silence reporting that’s critical of the regime. In the early hours on April 12, four men wearing face masks two of whom wielded sledgehammers barged into the printing warehouse and smashed machinery and computers for around two minutes before leaving with a computer. No staff members were injured during the incident.

Virus Pandemic Overshadows Bulgarian Parliamentary Election

Virus pandemic overshadows Bulgarian parliamentary election Veselin Toshkov , SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) After months of nationwide anti-government protests over corruption, stalled reforms and a stagnating economy in the European Union’s poorest member state, Bulgarians are gearing up for a parliamentary election overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic. The election is widely predicted to produce a fragmented parliament that will struggle to elect a new government, but the ruling party of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov may still end up as the biggest party in the chamber. Around 6.7 million eligible voters will start casting their ballots Sunday morning to elect 240 lawmakers. Borissov’s run for a new term his fourth in a decade could succeed, as his center-right GERB party is currently tipped by analysts to win. They note that the opposition remains fragmented and also that during a crisis, voters prefer the status quo.
