âIt felt like greener pasturesâ: Immigrating to the UK by Amy Freeman, Woodford County High School Britain exceeded its net migration target for the 37th year in a row in 2018, according to the Guardian. With 258,000 more people moving to the UK than leaving, it was seen as a failure for the government. But, as with all statistics, people are lumped together as a number, swaddled suffocatingly in media outrage, and stripped of names, faces and their stories. But if we peel back the numbers and layers of unhelpful narratives, we can find the individuals, and uncover their histories. One such person is David Adeyemo, who migrated from Nigeria a year ago, and now lives in Newham, East London.
