Fire rages for hours on South Mountain in York County

According to posts from several area departments, the mountain fire broke out in Franklin Township.
York County’s Live Incident reports show the fire call went out around 5 p.m., along South Mountain Road.
Linglestown, Hummelstown and Rutherford fire companies were dispatched out of Dauphin County, and Newberry Township and Wellsville fire companies out of York County.
Northern York County Fire and Rescue shared two posts earlier Sunday, warning people about the high fire danger level.
GOP nominates Lebanon County s Gebhard in race for 48th Senate district

Christopher Gebhard overwhelmingly snagged the Republican nomination to replace the late state Sen. Dave Arnold Jr. on Saturday and will go on to vie in a May special election for the 48th Senate District seat.
Gebhard prevailed on the first ballot during a meeting of GOP delegates held at the Lebanon Valley Exposition Center.
Gebhard won a clear majority of the group, getting 68 votes out of 81 cast, according to party officials. The runner-up was Robert Harkins, of Newberry Township, who received 13 votes.
Harkins was the only other candidate nominated Saturday. Nine candidates had announced their intention to nab the Republican nomination.

The field of candidates hoping to fill the open 48th state Senatorial District seat has attracted a lot of interest with multiple candidates seeking the Republican and Democratic nominations as well as now features a third-party candidate.
The seat, which opened up as the result of the Jan. 17 death of Dave Arnold, is set to be filled in a special election scheduled for May 18. That date coincides with the primary election.
The winner of the seat – which represents a district that includes all of Lebanon County and parts of Dauphin and York counties – will serve the remainder of Arnold’s term which expires Nov. 30, 2022.
Paroled killer captured in York City, also tied to ongoing fatal crash investigation

A fugitive who has served time for fatally shooting a man and who allegedly caused a crash that killed a woman was captured in York City on Valentine s Day after he drew the attention of police by testing the doorknob of a York City home, police said.
Rahsaun Bush, 29, of no fixed address, remains in York County Prison on $50,000 bail, charged with the felony of flight to avoid apprehension, misdemeanor drug possession and the summary offense of disorderly conduct.
Bush cannot be released even if he posts bail. That s because he s also being held on a state parole violation detainer related to his York County manslaughter conviction, according to officials.
Despite pandemic, these new businesses, medical centers and homes are opening in central Pa.

The COVID-19 pandemic might have slowed down business openings and construction but it certainly hasn’t stopped them.
A number of housing developments are planned in Harrisburg, Susquehanna Township, Hampden Township, East Pennsboro Township and throughout the midstate.
And stores including REI Co-op, PaulB Mechanicsburg, Five Below and TJ Maxx are all opening new locations in central Pennsylvania this year.
And three companies have plans to open multiple locations in the region: Shiny Shell CarWash, Xfinity and Pet Supplies Plus.
Other new locations include a childcare center, a hospital, newly built medical offices, a doggie daycare, restaurants, hotels, an indoor trampoline park and more.
