An area man was arrested for allegedly shooting a woman and then fleeing from police.
Anthony Nash, age 34, was arrested around 5:30 a.m., Saturday, April 24, when the City of Newburgh Police received a gunshot notification from ShotSpotter in the area of Montgomery Street and Clinton Street, said the Newburgh Police.
An officer was on the scene within a minute and attempted to Nash, of Newburgh, who began running in an attempt to evade the officer, police said.
A foot chase ensued through sidewalks, backyards, and over fences. The officer closed the distance and was able to knock Nash to the ground, where he was then apprehended.

The Town of Newburgh Police Department is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle that happened on Tuesday at the intersection of Route 52 and Rock Cut Road.
The preliminary investigation shows a 2016 GMC Sierra operated by a 21-year-old man from Newburgh attempted to make a left onto Rock Cout Road while traveling west on Route 52. 46-year-old Shakir Rashada of New Windsor was heading east on Route 52 on a 2003 Harley Davidson, police say.
As the GMC tried to turn left the GMC and Harley Davidson collided, according to the Town of Newburgh Police Department. Rashada was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident took place around 11:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, in Dutchess County.
City of Beacon Police officers responded to Red Flynn Drive near the Sloop Club for a man reported to be yelling for help, said Det. Sgt. Jason Johnson.
Officers located a capsized rowboat in the river approximately 20 yards from land with a man clinging to it, Johnson said.
Officers were able to throw a rope at the man and pull him to the pier where he was lifted out of the water.
The City of Beacon Fire Department also responded to assist and Beacon Volunteer Ambulance transported the man to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.
