Lawsuit claims two Newburgh teachers raped a student in the 1970s

The lawsuit identifies the teachers as Ralph Petrozello and Thomas Herman, whom it says taught art at Meadow Hill Elementary School – a Newburgh school that has since closed – and Balmville Elementary. The case names Petrozello as a defendant but not Herman, who died in 2015 at age 75. Petrozello is now 69 years old and lives in San Diego, according to the lawsuit and public records. Records seem to indicate that he and Herman moved to San Diego in 1976 and lived together until Herman s death. Petrozello s attorneys deny the allegations and have asked the judge hearing the case to remove their client s name from court documents and replace them with his initials, granting him the same anonymity that the accuser is seeking. Justice Sandra Sciortino hasn t ruled yet on their request.

Newburg School District receives 5,000 dollar grant for STEM program

RDN REPORTS rdnnews@gmail.com A STEM program in a school setting provides a space where students can explore past the regular classroom and an environment to ask questions, try different ways to solve a problem, and start discussions with one another about what they are doing. STEM is a broad term that groups together the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The Newburg School District was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from State Farm to assist with their Audio Engineering STEM program. The course sequence is part of the district’s Audio/Video Career and Technical Education offerings where students at each level work together to design, create and utilize analog and digital audio components to create quality audio products. By the end of the sequence, students will be able to run their own musical recording session, and will be prepared after graduation to enter the sound design, electrical/audio engineering and manufacturer career fields.

Resorts World picks Newburgh Mall as site for new gambling hall

TOWN OF NEWBURGH - The casino operators who run Resorts World Catskills in Sullivan County plan to open a new gambling hall with video lottery terminals in part of the Newburgh Mall. That move would position what could be a major player in the gaming industry at the nexus of two interstate highways. Resorts World has been authorized by the state since 2019 to open an Orange County facility to deploy electronic slot machines that previously were licensed at Monticello Raceway in Sullivan. The company initially scouted potential sites in the Harriman area, near another Thruway interchange, but shifted its attention to an existing commercial space about about a 20-minute drive north of Harriman.
