Feline Friday Adoptable Cool Cats - Daily Advocate

Feline Friday Adoptable ‘Cool Cats’ Courtesy of Rob Penrod DARKE COUNTY “Cool cats,” both full grown and kittens, are just waiting to be adopted into loving homes, and are available now at the Darke County Humane Society, located at 7053 OH-49, in Greenville. One “cool cat” fun fact is understanding the difference between feral, outside and inside cats. Outdoor cats are often someone’s pet and will go home regularly. Their coat appears neat, clean and well kept. They will also usually have a collar, and will usually find their way home at night. A stray cat (one who might be lost or ran away from home) might look unkempt, with grungy coats, and are often thinner in appearance because they are not used to hunting for themselves. Feral cats, on the other hand, are used to being on their own. Feral cats groom themselves and know how to hunt for food. If a cat’s foot pads are soft, it is, most likely, an indoor cat.

Gaston County animal shelter employees reflect on new facility

Gaston County animal shelter employees reflect on new facility Employees of Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement finally showed off the features of their new animal shelter nearly a year after it began taking in animals.   Governed by Gaston County Police, the 21,650-square-feet shelter replaced a shelter in Dallas Park, which opened in the late 1960s when Gaston County’s population was about 148,000, according to Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey. Gaston County’s estimated population is now about 224,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. “Whenever you add people, you add pets,” Ramey said during a ribbon cutting held at the shelter on Friday, April 16. “It’s a new beginning for animals, the shelter and for Gaston County with this new facility.”

Feline Friday Adoptable ‘Cool Cats’ Derwin DARKE COUNTY “Cool cats,” both full grown and kittens, are just waiting to be adopted into loving homes, and are available now at the Darke County Humane Society, located at 7053 OH-49, in Greenville. One “cool cat” fun fact is that even though newborn kittens’ eyes are closed, their eyes will open after two weeks. Kittens have beautiful blue eyes at first, but only a small percentage of cats retain this blue eye color. Most cats’ eyes gradually change hues, with the most common being green, yellow, hazel, and golden brown. While Siamese, Himalayans, Ragdolls, Bengals, Cornish Rex, Tonkinese, Javanese and some Persians are more likely to have natural blue eyes, a domestic Shorthair or Longhair with white fur is more likely to retain blue eyes.
