Matty Longstaff becomes Newcastle United Foundation s newest ambassador Newcastle United s Matty Longstaff has become Newcastle United Foundation s newest ambassador in his commitment to enriching his hometown area. The 20-year-old midfielder was inspired by the Foundation s work with James Geddes, a next-door-neighbour of the Longstaff family in North Shields who was diagnosed with leukaemia as a teenager. With support from United s official charity through its wellbeing work in the Great North Children s Hospital and employability programmes based at St. James Park, James has regained his confidence and built lasting friendships with Foundation staff. Longstaff s new role sees him joining his brother, teammate and fellow Foundation ambassador, Sean, in promoting the work of the charity and its aims of motivating and mentoring individuals to achieve their potential.

Newcastle United Women s captain named as a #BeAGameChanger ambassador

Newcastle United Women captain Brooke Cochrane has been named as a Be A Game Changer ambassador. Her new role within the Newcastle United Foundation sees her become the first female ambassador for the charity’s campaign, highlighting Be A Game Changer’s provision to support all genders within the North East’s football community. This International Women’s Day, she is sharing her story to empower other women and girls to check in with each other or access advice on mental and physical wellness provided by the Foundation through digital resources and Health and Wellbeing sessions. Cochrane had found herself struggling to cope after picking up a potentially career-ending injury last year. Made bedbound at the start of the UK’s first lockdown, the 28-year-old could not escape her own thoughts of what her life might be like without the sport she loves.

That help has been needed more than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Amy and her team had to adopt strict safety measures to continue their work in person. Emotional support We didn t want to work remotely with the participants, Amy told the official club website.  We had done a lot of work with them and some of them rely on the staff a lot more than others for emotional support, guidance and everything else.
