Teifi River Clean planned for next month

Jill Sutton and Marco Rebora, of the Teifi River Clean group. NEWCASTLE Emlyn residents are organising a large clean-up along the River Teifi on Sunday, June 20, at 1pm. Following the flooding of the River Teifi, earlier this year, locals were appalled at the huge amount of plastic litter strewn along its banks of their beautiful river. A walk revealed numerous multi-coloured rubble bags, black silage wrapping and other litter caught up on bushes and trees. “The Teifi is not a public toilet, tip or dustbin!” said Marco Rebora, who lives alongside. “It is an artery to the sea and very soon there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.”

The group and the park committee have been working together over the last few years to obtain Lottery awards . “We were successful in our bid but Covid-19 has meant that it has taken longer to get the terrain finished,” said a spokesperson. “Lockdowns have meant the newly-created Petanque group has not been able to meet - until now!” The 20-strong group now meet on the first Monday and third Tuesday of the month at 2pm. It is hoped to have some competitions with other U3As, particularly Llanelli.
