PROJECTS from Unst to Fair isle have received grants from the latest round of payments from the Viking Energy community benefit fund. In Fair Isle the local development company is to receive £1,500 towards buying a fuel bowser and trailer which will allow fuel deliveries around.
CARD payments are now available on all inter-island ferry routes in Shetland except for Fair Isle, a meeting heard on Tuesday.
Shetland Islands Councilâs transport planning manager Michael Craigie said the roll-out would be publicised widely soon once things are bedded in.
He gave the update to a meeting of the councilâs environment and transport committee.

Chairman Ryan Thomson, who represents the North Isles, said introducing the equipment had been a priority.
Meanwhile the committee also gave its approval of a business case for a new Fair isle ferry and harbour improvements.
It is the latest committee to hear the report after members of ZetTrans gave it the thumbs up on Monday.

SHETLAND could have one extra councillor in the future if proposals for new electoral arrangements are approved.
Under final plans drawn up by Boundaries Scotland in a bid to rebalance the number of electors per councillor in the isles, Shetland could end up with 23 elected members instead of 22.
It proposes to decrease the number of councillors in the Shetland West ward from three to two, and add one to Shetland Central and another to Shetland South.

This would include Gulberwick moving from Lerwick South to the south ward party to “better reflect local ties”.

THE LOCAL housing market is âfreneticâ at the moment, according to one property expert – with high demand met with a lower than usual number of homes going up for sale.
Harper Macleodâs Robert Bell said âdemand is exceeding supply at the momentâ, which is making it more difficult for people to navigate through the market.

He added that more people than ever is signed up to the companyâs mailing list for updates on new properties.
The demand is in part down to an apparent increasing number of people keen to move to Shetland.
