Niabi Zoo opens for the 2021 season, with some pandemic changes

Niabi Zoo is officially reopening for the 2021 season with special pandemic guidelines built to keep both guests and animals safe. The first day for members will be Saturday, April 10, and the general public is welcomed back on Sunday, April 11.  The zoo will be requiring face masks at all times, and tickets must be purchased ahead of time for everything at the facility, including admission, parking, train rides, animal feedings, and more.  Capacity will be limited inside of the zoo this season, so tickets will be for timed sessions - either 9am to noon, or noon to 3pm. The zoo will be open Monday through Sunday, through September 12, and Tuesday through Sunday from September 13 to October 31.

Last year, the Niabi Zoo didn t open until late June. When they reopened last year at the start of Phase IV, officials implemented ticket changes and visiting changes. Those modifications will continue for the 2021 season. One of the changes made last year to maintain and monitor capacity requirements was requiring all guests, including Niabi Zoo members and Pass holders, to purchase tickets online on the Niabi Zoo website before visiting. The zoo will reopen to members on Saturday, April 10th and will welcome back members of the general public on Sunday, April 11th. Zoo leaders say modified online ticketing process and visiting guidelines will continue. “We are very excited to be able to welcome guest back to the Zoo,” Niabi Zoo Director, Lee Jackson said in a release. “It’s been a long difficult period for the zoo and we’re anxious to start the road back to normal”. The zoo says with the state of Illinois moving to a less restrictive phase of the COVID-19 response plan, the zoo is able to reopen at 25 percent capacity and with some restrictions in place. Zoo leaders say in order to maintain and monitor capacity requirements, all guests, including Niabi Zoo members and Pass holders, they will continue to require that tickets be purchased online at their website prior to visiting.

Popular Zoo Ready to Welcome Back Visitors It s time to take the kids back to the zoo. Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley, Illinois is set to reopen this weekend, following a tough 2020. Last year, the zoo had to delay its opening from April 18 to June 27 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the zoo is opening much earlier, but will again be at reduced capacity. The popular zoo with over 200 species and 600 animals in total is open just to members this Saturday, April 10, and Sunday it s open to the public. The zoo will be at 25 percent capacity for the foreseeable future, according to WQAD. There are two different sessions each day, one from 9 am to noon and one from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time, and people definitely answered the call. Earlier this morning the zoo announced they re sold out for this weekend.
