ELKINS Local nurses are being celebrated as part of National Nurses Week, honoring brave individuals who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many longtime nurses are now retired, but still supportive of present-day nurses, including Sarah Fletcher of Davis.
“There is a saying that many people who have nurses in their families or are acquainted with, which is ‘Once a Nurse, always a Nurse, ” Fletcher said.
“I am a nurse and was part of the nursing community in Elkins from 1967 to 2000,” she said. “I worked at Memorial General and then went to Youth Health after the hospital closed.

Thunder Bay’s efforts in crushing COVID-19 appear to be paying off.
The health unit tells us while there are three new cases for Thursday, 47 are resolved, which has pushed the active case load to 103.
Wednesday it was 148.
There’s also a glimmer of good news for Thunder Bay’s health unit concerning the possible variant reported Wednesday, in that it is actually for another region.
We’ll have the number of people receiving care at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre when that comes available.
Ontario is recording almost 3,300 new cases.
