ROBERT KITCHIN/STUFF
Finance Minister Grant Robertson explains some of the details from Budget 2021.
OPINION: Finance Minister Grant Robertson must be well pleased with the reaction to his latest Budget. Not only did he get away with an outrageous piece of spin, but criticism of the big spend-up and lack of investment in jobs and productivity have faded from sight. The Budget debate in Parliament ended on Wednesday, but with no substantial critique, let alone an alternative narrative being mounted. Within Labour, Robertson is master of all he takes on. Not since the days of Robert Muldoon has a finance minister demonstrated such control over all important portfolios. It is clear to most inside the beltway who really runs this Government; she fronts, but he’s in charge.
