COVID exposures cut in half at ETHS, drop slightly at D65

Evanston Now It s the second week of improving numbers for ETHS. Evanston/Skokie School District 65 reported today that COVID-19 exposures among students and staff declined slightly this week to 52 from the 57 reported a week ago. The district’s case counts include both new COVID positive cases among students and staff as well as students and staff who are in quarantine because either they or someone they were in close contact with either exhibited COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for the disease. The highest number of persons affected this week was 14 at Nichols Middle School, followed by 12 at King Arts. Evanston Township High School reported nine exposures this week, one new student case and eight students in quarantine. That was down from 19 exposures last week, with nine new student cases and 10 students in quarantine.

On May 1, their art piece was presented to the public at the Resilient Evanston Youth Showcase called “REYS of Sunshine” at Open Studio Project’s Gallery 901 in Evanston. The exhibit, sponsored by Evanston Cradle to Career, Young Evanston Artists and Open Studio Project, featured art by youth and for youth about racial trauma, healing and life during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The highest number of persons affected this week was 16 at King magnet school, 14 at Nichols Middle School. Evanston Township High School reported 19 exposures, with nine new student cases and 10 students in quarantine. That was down from 45 students all of them under quarantine last week.

D65 reports 82 students and staff exposed to COVID-19 Numbers rose again this week. Evanston/Skokie School District 65 reported today that COVID-19 exposures among students and staff more than increased to 82 this week to from 75 reported a week ago. It was the highest weekly total of cases and persons in quarantine since the district returned to in-person instruction earlier this year. This is the third week since District 65 schools returned from spring break. The total the week before spring break was 17 cases. The district’s case counts include both new COVID positive cases among students and staff as well as students and staff who are in quarantine because either they or someone they were in close contact with either exhibited COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for the disease.
