Two people were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving three vehicles on State Route 17 in Waverly, police said.
Owego-based New York State Police said the crash occurred at 3:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 17 when an SUV struck a guide rail on the right side of the roadway.
According to accident investigators, the SUV was then struck by a pick-up truck after the SUV crossed into its path in the highway’s left lane. The SUV was then T-boned by a tractor-trailer, police said.
Troopers said the female driver of the SUV and a male passenger were taken to Robert Packer Hospital in serious condition. Officials said off-duty EMS members in the area stopped and assisted the occupants of the vehicle before ambulances arrived.
