(Breeze photos by Robert Emerson) CUMBERLAND – Few places make someone feel more alone than descending into the abyss of a dark river and feeling around for something. Members of the Cumberland Water Rescue and Recovery Team, now training new members and boasting new equipment, say the experience of diving to retrieve lost items is sometimes terrifying but can be addictive. The team, first formed in May of 2000, has recently received several donations to upgrade equipment to be safer and more efficient. They showed off that equipment in the pool of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island last week.
