Nelson is all about bringing accountability back to city hall. COURTESY OF THE NELSON CAMPAIGN
Fremont Brewing co-owner Sara Nelson considers herself a progressive small business owner, and she thinks Seattle is missing that small-business voice on its city council. If elected, her main priority will be Seattle s economic recovery. Sponsored Tickets $15-$250. Aphrodesia delivery menu, incredible auction items, live streamed performances.
That s the basic pitch driving her run for Seattle City Council Position 9, the citywide position vacated by Council President Lorena Gonzalez, who is running for Mayor.
Nelson, who has a background as a city council aide, is vying for the seat along with master s student Claire Grant, Gonzalez s chief of staff Brianna Thomas, and activist and lawyer Nikkita Oliver.
This year’s mayoral and city council races will be voters’ first referendum on policing in Seattle.

Seattle’s 2019 election was a referendum on many things homelessness, housing, taxation, corporate influence but policing was not on the list.
One month before voters cast their ballots in 2019 for seven of nine seats on the Seattle City Council, just 10% of registered voters said the police department was their top issue, while 70% named homelessness or housing, according to a Crosscut/Elway Poll at the time.

Money continues to pour into Seattle races for mayor and city council. For the candidates looking to replace outgoing at-large Councilmember Lorena Gonzalez, it appears to be a three-way race in the early stages.
Leading the pack in money received from individual contributions is Fremont Brewery founder Sara Nelson, having brought in nearly $90,000 as of Tuesday, April 6, spread out across 466 donors.
Prominent donors to Nelson’s campaign include current mayoral candidate Lance Randall, Communications Director for the King County Executive’s office Alex Fryer, former Seattle Councilmember Heidi Wills, and 2019 council candidates Brendan Kolding and Logan Bowers.

All of Washington state moves to Phase 3 of reopening on March 22.
Inslee took a step closer to that goal, too. He said the next category of residents will be eligible for the vaccine sooner than expected; on March 17, grocery and agriculture workers, law enforcement, people who are pregnant and those who have a high-risk disability will be able to get vaccinated.
