Local businesses hopeful Restaurant Week will provide a boost in business

Local businesses hopeful Restaurant Week will provide a boost in business COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) Restaurant Week in The District in downtown Columbia began Monday, and local restaurants say the event could help boost businesses for the industry during the Coronavirus pandemic. Nickie Davis with the District said restaurants are still being impacted by the pandemic while only being able to serve people at half capacity. A majority of them are far less than that capacity because we still need to factor in the six-foot distancing which means that some of them are at 20% capacity, Davis said. That doesn t mean that their utilities went down 20%. That doesn t mean their rent went down 20%. That means their income and their normal profitability is down almost 80%.

Restaurant Week in Columbia begins Monday with changes due to pandemic

COLUMBIA - The District in Downtown Columbia will hold its annual Restaurant Week again this year. Only this time, there s some changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The annual event is organized to support businesses in Columbia. Due to the pandemic, one event organizer says this year Restaurant Week is more important than ever before. Our businesses desperately need your patronage, Nikki Davis, the Downtown District s Executive Director says. We are very excited to continue to do Restaurant Week and hopefully get people to buy some food, try new places and discover some new favorites. Normally, the event uses a passport as a ticket into various businesses. This year the District has created a bingo card with various tasks people can do from their own homes.

Matthew Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union and a close Trump ally, brought in the largest haul. According to a lobbying filing released Thursday night, Schlapp was paid a whopping $750,000 since mid-December to lobby Trump to pardon Parker Petit, a top Republican donor who served as Georgia finance chairman for Trump’s 2016 campaign. Petit was convicted of securities fraud in November and faced up to 20 years in federal prison.
