Skateboarding, the city s insurers feel, is inherently dangerous, so the city needed to take precautions like requiring a waiver and protective gear such as helmets and kneepads, Villano said.
Because of this, Villano said, the park needs to be run with rules and regulations.
The issue of the park s closure came to a head last week after the city issued tickets to about a half-dozen adult skaters for trespassing and warnings to underaged teens found at the park.
They entered the skatepark through holes cut in the fence. In response, Clifton police last week wrote summonses and issued warnings. This move, however, incensed adult riders and parents alike.
