Everything You Need to Know About Building an ADU in Portland, Oregon
Accessory dwelling units help the city meet its density goals and extend housing options but only after striking a short-term/long-term balance.
While producing an annual music festival for five years, Keely Montgomery found that she often missed her two young children. She and her husband Josh watched accessory dwelling units (ADUs) pop up in Portland over the course of the decade, and in 2018 they decided to take the plunge. They commissioned an ADU in their backyard with short-term Airbnb rentals in mind, and Keely quit her job.
Achieving a No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 is a feat most artists strive for their entire careers. For Iann Dior, it took him less than two years, the length of time he’s been in the music industry. His dynamic feature on 24kGoldn’s “Mood,” a guitar-driven, upbeat ode to a toxic relationship they released in July of 2020, is his biggest win yet.
“We made ‘Mood’ in my apartment, not even thinking about it,” Iann shares. The two-times platinum-selling track, produced by Blake Slatkin, KBeaZy and Omer Fedi, and mixed by Iann’s longtime friend H4lftime, currently sits at over 758 million Spotify streams. “Now it’s the No. 1 song in the world, so, now I know in the back of my mind that it’s that easy.”

Streaming straight from outer space, Mather Kipka’s debut solo album “Coloring With Sound” is out on all platforms Monday.
Readers will likely remember Kipka as ConVal’s bespectacled star of the soccer field and basketball court, as well as the school’s 2020 salutatorian. Behind the scenes, he’s been cooking up beats at home in Peterborough for a few years; you might have heard one of his beats used to score a broadcast on NHPR in March. Now, “Coloring With Sound” takes him from trap beat maker to full-on electronic producer.
Kipka said there are a couple sampled drumbeats on the new seven-track album, and one melodic sample; “Other than that, all the songs are written by me on my computer,” Kipka said.
