SOME of Ryedale’s best-known business people have backed the ‘east and west’ plan for the future of local government. The east-west proposal would see Ryedale join with Scarborough, City of York and Selby in a new, local council for the east of North Yorkshire, while Harrogate, Craven, Richmondshire and Hambleton would form another new council North Yorkshire County Council has put forward plans for a ‘super council’ plan which would see the whole county covered by a new authority, excluding the City of York. Richard Fahey, owner of Richard Fahey Racing based in Malton, said: “I am 100% behind the ‘east and west’ proposal as it is the common sense solution. One authority for all of North Yorkshire is just too big to work effectively. Anyone can see that. For me and my facility in Malton, I feel a new council linking York and the A64 corridor will allow us to push for dualling this key piece of infrastructure with renewed strength and unity.

Thousands
of New Zealanders have joined rock music icon, Rod Stewart,
in a nationwide singalong of his hit song, Sailing, to send
a message of togetherness to the world.
On Saturday
afternoon, Rod Stewart’s powerful and emotive performance,
recorded on a boat on the Thames in London, was beamed into
Auckland’s America’s Cup Village and around the country.
And with the event being one of few global events to
currently take place, it was no surprise that thousands of
people joined Rod to sing their hearts out with this special
message from New Zealand to the world.
