The Outdoors Group Forest Schools has stepped in to run Quarry Fields near Ilfracombe so local children can continue to play and learn outdoors.
This will be the fifth Forest School for the organisation which has established sites in Exeter, Exmouth, Tiverton and Okehampton. The opportunity arose after Tasha Greenwood, founder of Quarry Fields decided to step away from the business to pursue a new venture.
Nick Murphy, forest schools manager said: “We’re excited to take on Quarry Fields as our newest location.
“With much of the groundwork already done we’ll be up and running quickly. We anticipate starting toddler club sessions after Easter and holiday clubs later in the year. We’re really looking forward to developing the site further and bringing in new employment opportunities for local people.”
Ben Mason launches his latest album, Kanandah.
Kanandah, an aboriginal word meaning the land where the sun sets , is also the name of the street Ben grew up in in the outer Melbourne suburb of Research.
Ben tells stories of his childhood in leafy Research - climbing through a hole that his father cut in their back fence to play in the farmland behind their property, riding down their street on the back of his neighbour s family bus, making and losing friends, running away from home, and walking in on his parents private bedroom activities. Kanandah is at times playful and hopeful, and at other times dark and despairing - just like most childhoods. Ben captures how things that seem trivial to adults can have long lasting influence on children.
