Calling Out Auxillia s Editorial Interference Benefits State Media Journalists And Editors (Hopefully)

Tichaona Zindoga There has been considerable interest in my interview on South African public broadcaster, SABC, aired at the weekend. I appeared with Hopewell Chin’ono, as we discussed the state of media in Zimbabwe on the occasion of Independence Day. The programme was pre-recorded on Friday. Interestingly, after the session, Chin’ono took to Twitter and billed it as a “tell-all” expose in which I would spill the beans of what State media journalists “were forced to do and by whom”. I chuckled. Not unexpectedly, interest in the programme shot up from that moment until, and after, it was aired.

Green bombers dark return

FEARED: Green Bombers (Source: Daily News) In 2002, Zimbabwe introduced a youth training programme which yielded violent and uncouth young men and women. At its inception, the late former President, Robert Mugabe claimed the programme was meant to empower the youth by training them in various skills while also promoting discipline. It later turned out that the programme, named after the late Youth Minister, Border Gezi, was in fact a Zanu PF youth militia-training programme. The youth who graduated from these camps were better known as Green Bombers because of their military green uniforms. They were also feared as they were known to be violent, brutal and merciless, especially against members of the opposition.

Zim TV goes digital - Zimbabwe Situation

Zim TV goes digital Conrad Mupesa Mashonaland West Bureau ZIMBABWE will soon have free-to-air digital television services through 12 stations following the successful and historic switch-over yesterday, from the analogue signal to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). Information,  Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa commissioned the country’s digitisation programme under the Zimbabwe Digital Broadcasting Migration at a landmark ceremony in Magunje, Mashonaland West. The US$125 million migration project to switch over from analogue to digital commenced in 2015 and the nation failed to meet its deadline owing to several setbacks that included poor funding. At least 18 transmitters, including the Karoi transmitter, have so far been completed from the targeted 48, mostly in areas that had challenges in receiving analogue signals.
