A PROPERTY that had been causing problems for neighbours over a long period of time has been shut down. Police secured a closure order on the house in Crossmoor Drive, Tonge Moor, prohibiting access by anyone for three months. The order was made following multiple reports of anti-social behaviour and breaches of Covid-19 regulations between November, 2020 and May this year. Tonge with the Haulgh councillor Nick Peel thanked neighbours for their understanding and welcomed the closure order. He said: “We’ve been aware of problems for a while and speaking with neighbours about the issues they were facing. “I think the right decision has been made. Bolton at Home and the council will try to work with tenants to resolve these sorts of issues first but at the end of the day neighbours need to be protected from anti-social behaviour.
Labour accused of politicising Bolton s fight against Indian strain of Covid-19
Tory council leader David Greenhalgh said it s a real shame that it would appear some within the Labour Party are prepared to enter into political point scoring
NHS sources said they were dismayed by Labour’s attacks. ‘We have vaccinators who have been at this since December who are shattered,’ said one.
The Indian variant of Covid-19 is causing a spike in infections, with Bolton heavily affected. Cllr Greenhalgh said: “Yes, our rates of the Indian variant are going up, but while hospitalisations remain low and all evidence points to the vaccine holding, the administration’s message to government is ‘do not lock us down. Do not take us out of the roadmap. “The majority of our cases are in their teens, 20s and 30s. Send us more vaccinations and allow us to vaccinate 18 years-plus now, that is the answer, not further restrictions. “We have been here before. All that will happen is people will travel outside the borough, sometimes 50 yards up the road across a boundary to access hospitality.
THE Conservatives seem likely to continue leading Bolton Council after they became the largest party after the local elections. They won three more seats and lost one and now have 20 councillors of the borough’s 60. Labour also gained a councillor and held on to the seven seats they were defending and now have a total of 19 councillors. There were 21 seats fought for on Thursday in 20 wards across Bolton, with 99 candidates standing. The results were announced after a lengthy counting process at the University of Bolton stadium with counting and verification starting at 9am and the last result announced after 6pm.
BOLTON has the second highest covid-19 rate in the country. Now Bolton s public health officers are urgently trying to find out why the infection rate has rocketed. As of Tuesday, only Hyndburn s infection rate was higher. Bolton s rate was up from 46.3 to 73.4, with 211 new cases and the borough was in the top five to record the biggest week-on-week rises. Director of public health at Bolton Council, Dr Helen Lowey said: “We are aware of a recent increase in covid cases in the borough, and a plan is in place to help us understand the causes behind this and prevent further spread.
