Wasted 15 million Johnson & Johnson doses affecting local South Carolina pharmacies Johnson & Johnson says they hope to have 24 million vaccines out by the end of April. (Source: Morgan Newell, WBTV) By Morgan Newell | April 1, 2021 at 5:23 PM EDT - Updated April 2 at 8:28 AM
ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) -Pharmacies in South Carolina could soon go weeks without fresh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
It is all because of a mistake made more than 400 miles away. A mix up of vaccine ingredients at a manufacturing plant in Baltimore has ruined 15 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. They say the plant combined two ingredients that spoiled the millions of doses. Tens of thousands of those doses were meant for South Carolina. The company does not know when it will be able to start shipping more doses.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. While health officials assure the current COVID-19 vaccines are safe and highly effective against the known variants of concern, it is possible that, one day, companies might need to adjust them if any gaps in protection arise.
The prospect has some online wondering how that process would work, and if necessary, just how swiftly would companies be able to roll out these new formulas? Could they just debut them as soon as they are ready?
Vaccine Cards: What you need to know Emily Wakeman © Provided by Columbia WIS TV WIS10
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Millions of South Carolinians have now received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as a little piece of paper to document the vaccination.
However, many South Carolinians have been asking what happens if you lose your vaccine card and how important is it to prove you received the vaccine?
One woman told WIS it was really difficult for her to get a copy of her card, saying she got her second dose at Gamecock park as a walk-up appointment and she never received her card back. She said she went to get a copy, the VAMS and Prisma MyChart system was showing no record of her ever getting the second dose.
